Why hate America and House, Part II
Just to get one thing strait, i don't like a lot of things in America, but i also respect and like a lot of things. Here go some examples of what i like, the list is not pretending to be exhaustive. Hemingway, Henry Miller and Steinbeck, Ansel Adams, Disney and Pixar, Telephone and Internet, Jazz and Rock. If i had been there i know i would also loved the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. I also love old movies like Casablanca and the Maltese Falcon and the African Queen. I also have a great respect for some excellent investigation units that gave us many Nobel prize winners. I must also thank America for the commercial airlines. They allow us to travel easy today.
Having said that i must continue. America have a problem. We can't find an average American. There is no such specimen. America is just a conglomerate of different people. They suffer from one thing i saw in Russia. They just don't integrate foreigners. There are too many Latinos, Cubans, Irish, Polish, Korean, Chinese, Natives, Portuguese, Armenians, Black, Ukrainians, Red Necks, Elites and whatever to one be able to call of them Americans. Also they are just too new to have created that specie.
If i had to choose one person to characterise America i would pick a spoiled rich brat that no one likes, but most pretend to adore by necessity. America is a teenager with too much money. They think they are the best, they are rebel and full of confidence. They just ignore all others with more experience, and they have the money to get whatever they want.
America needs to know some things. They must learn with the history of others. They are going to fall. All great Empires fall. They will too. They need to grow, they must be adults, not just some teenagers from "High School Musical".
At this point i must tell a story that i saw with Americans. One day i was in the beach. There was volleyball pitch there. Some Portuguese guys where playing. At some point they where challenged by some Americans. They played and the Americans lost. The other day, the same guy went to the Portuguese and asked them for e rematch. They agreed. Then the new American team appeared. They looked all evening for all Americans in the hotel that new how to play, they have chosen the best, even organized some cheerleaders. Of course they won this time. America need to learn quickly to enjoy loosing.
America must grow into Americans. They must consolidate into an more homogeneous population, all called Americans. No more Latinos, Cubans, Irish, Polish, Korean, Chinese, Natives, Portuguese, Armenians, Black, Ukrainians, Red Necks, Elites and whatever.
This bring me to Dr. House. Today's episode was about if the ends justify the process. America must understand some things that us, old countries and old empires, know for long. Power is just transitory. It's not the end that's important. The path is much more important. The things you learn in the process are much more important than the result. People must be allowed to fail. It's the only way to be better. If you only win you become sclerotic fast. They just haven't done that because they are teenagers. When they grow, they will need to learn how to enjoy loosing.
